Shelley Carlin

Hi I’m Shelley the Director and current Educational Leader. I have worked at Marjorie Mann since November 2012.

I believe each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature. I believe every child has the potential to bring something unique and special to the world.

Children have taught me to open my mind and heart to the joys, the innocence, and the diversity in the world. Because of this, I will remember to smile with the new, cherish the old, and laugh with children.

“Everyday I strive to make a better tomorrow for our children.”

Centre Management Committee

The Centre is managed by a voluntary Committee made up of families and interested community members. The committee works closely with the Director and carries the overall responsibility for the operation of the Centre. Its role is to ensure the regulations laid down by various government bodies are observed, to oversee and support the Director and to keep a close eye on expenditures. Committee Members are elected to their positions at the Annual General Meeting which is held in October of each year.

Leadership Team

Hi my name is Wendy Johns and I am the Assistant Director.

I have worked at Marjorie Mann since 13th January of 1997. I first started in childcare back in 1987 and 1988 when I trained as a Mother Craft Nurse at Ngala Mother Craft Home and Training Centre. In 1997 and 1998, I completed my Diploma of Children’s Services. I had always had a strong connection with children and decided from high school this was the path I wanted to follow. I have worked mainly in community-based centres as from my training at Ngala, I realised that this was very important to me. I love my job because I am passionate about children and wanting them to grow, learn and develop to reach their optimum best. I believe that children are capable and competent, unique individuals that develop at their own rate. Children learn best when they are fully engaged in active exploration both inside and outside. Children need spaces where they can explore, imagine, create, investigate, and hypothesise. An environment that is full of possibilities, that is supportive of learning, enables children to make choices using a variety of open-ended materials and able to work independently with peers and educators.
